Kensington Gardens' Great Pumpkin

We've made it to the midpoint of summer, and there are signs of spooky season popping up all over. I hope your pumpkin patch is doing well in this heat. London's Kensington Gardens has sprouted a 19.5 foot tall pumpkin! That would be a record-holder, if it were a botanical pumpkin. But this is art.

This is a sculpture gifted to the gardens from Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Kusama is known for her iconic pumpkins (the top image is a similar installation in Japan in 2016), and her work is recognizable by its polka dots, which are included in all her creations. The sculpture at Kensington Gardens has both, and is the tallest pumpkin she's ever made. The work is titled -wait for it- Pumpkin.

Pumpkin is managed by Serpentine Galleries. A spokesman tells us the artwork has nothing to do with Halloween, but will be on display to the public until November 3rd. That seems suspiciously like having something to do with Halloween. Read more about Kusama and her Pumpkin at Smithsonian.
