In one of the true signs of autumn in America, about the middle of August, you notice the opening of a Spirit Halloween pop-up shop. The company takes advantage of empty retail shops with a short term lease to sell Halloween gear, from costumes and accessories to life-size animatronic lawn decorations. In the fall of 2020, Nick Lutsko wrote a catchy little song about it. But that was only the beginning. The store had nothing to do with Lutsko's song, but as he hinted about being paid for it in the lyrics, they eventually reached out and gave him some money. Lutsko told the story in a podcast (with transcript). Then Spirit Halloween called him back and commissioned another song as their official theme!
And then the next year, he did a new song for Spirit Halloween, called "Spirit Halloween Planet."
We are looking forward to what Lutsko will come up with for 2022. But you know, you don't have to wait for a pop-up shop. Spirit Halloween operates by mail order year round.
