The Most Popular Halloween Candy for Each State

Halloween was pretty much a bust in 2020, and barely began to recover in 2021. But this year, the National Retail Federation expects people to spend about $3.1 billion on Halloween candy! Candystore.com crunched the numbers from Halloween candy sales over the past 15 years and determined that America's favorite Halloween candy in 2022 is (again) Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. That's quite believable. Those are followed by Skittles, M&Ms, Starburst, Hot Tamales, Sour Patch Kids, Hershey's Kisses, Snickers, Tootsie Pops, and candy corn. Strangely, candy corn also made the list of the worst Halloween candies.ā€‹

But America is a big country, and tastes vary from state to state. The map above shows the top favorite Halloween candy for each state, which is interactive at the Candystore.com website. A chart at the same link gives the top three kinds of candy each state prefers. For my state, Kentucky, Reese's Cups are at the top, followed by Hot Tamales and Swedish Fish. I can almost guarantee that the people who buy the candy will eat the Reese's Cups themselves, and hand out Hot Tamales and Swedish Fish to trick or treaters. See if the favorites of your state reflects your tastes. -via Mental Floss
