Three New Movies Are Resurrecting Frankenstein

Mary Shelley's classic story of Dr. Frankenstein and his reanimated creature never fails to draw us in. The basic premise is so fascinating that the tale can be told in many ways, and we are always eager to experience it. You'll have plenty of chances to do that soon.

The horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein is in the can and scheduled to be released on February 9. It involves a teen goth girl who manages to reanimate a corpse to be the man of her dreams.

Guillermo del Toro is working on a film for Netflix in which Jacob Elordi of Euphoria and Saltburn will star as the monster, and Oscar Isaac will portray Dr. Frankenstein. Elordi has replaced Andrew Garfield, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. The movie has no title nor a release date yet.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has also cast a Frankenstein movie, this one from the perspective of the Bride. After Netflix dropped the project, Warner Bros. picked it up. Jessie Buckley of Women Talking will play the lead, with a star-studded supporting cast that includes Christian Bale, Annette Benning, Penélope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard. The story is set in Chicago in the 1930s. The media is referring to the movie as The Bride of Frankenstein at this point to distinguish it from Netflix's project, but it has no official title and no release date yet.

We'll update you when these movies are far enough along to have titles or release dates. I'm looking forward to the trailers.
