We are just barely over three months until Halloween, and you'll have plenty of new horror films to watch in October, plus your annual favorites, so there's no reason not to start seeing some really scary stuff now. The A.V. Club has cobbled together a list of what they think are the twenty best haunted house movies. Their ranking may be right, or they may be very wrong. An awful lot of people came into the comments to express their opinions on the movie listed and to suggest better options. But that's what's great about such lists- they enable an exchange of ideas. Some are just pure opinions, while others quibble about whether a movie should be ranked because it's very scary or because it's a good movie overall. And your definition of a "haunted house movie" may differ. Whether you agree or disagree with their rankings, you will probably encounter a movie on this list that you haven't seen before (they stretch back to 1944), so you might be tempted to look it up and watch it.
