St. Helens, Oregon Has a Month Long Celebration of Halloween Known as Spirit of Halloweentown

St. Helens, Oregon, is known as a Halloween town. They are so into Halloween that they actually have a month-long event celebrating the holiday. The event is known as Spirit of Halloweentown. The festivities start mid-September and run through October 31 with more 50,000 people a year attending.   

If the name Halloweentown sounds familiar to you, it should. Halloweentown is the title of the 1998 Disney Channel Original movie starring Debbie Reynolds and Kimberly J. Brown. The film about a girl who learns that she is part witch, has become a bit of a Halloween classic. 

What’s St. Helen’s connection to the film? Halloweentown was filmed in St. Helens and neighboring Scappoose. Halloweentown fans are sure to recognize the iconic town square and City Hall. Plus, to make sure fans recognize the downtown, the city puts up a giant pumpkin in the town square.
