Salt and Straw's Don Bugito's Creepy Crawly Critters Ice CreamTo start their Halloween celebration for this year, Salt and Straw released their seasonal Halloween Series, which featuresa limited-edition delicacy for the sweet tooths out there! For 2022, the company worked with Monica Martinez. She decided to incorporate a big part of her culture in designing the classic and ever-returning seasonal flavor: Don Bugito’s Creepy Crawly Critters. The name is accurate, as the matcha ice cream concoction comes with toffee-brittle mealworms and chocolate-covered crickets. Before you complain that it’s just fake– it’s not. The company reassures its buyers that the crawly critters are genuine bugs. Martinez created the flavor to introduce the concept of eating bugs and insects to people outside Mexican residents. "I quickly realized there was no culture of eating insects here," Martinez shared. "But then I hosted a dinner in New York City and saw that people were ready."For a taste, you can still purchase this flavor outside of the spooky season!Image credit: Salt and Straw#icecream #seasonalflavors #creepycrawlycritters #DonBugitos #SaltandStraw #insects #bugs #food #delicacies

How to Make Dia de Los Muertos Sugar SkullsDia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November first and second. The traditions surrounding the day are somewhat of a combination of Halloween and All Soul's Day, as families gather to joyously celebrate their dearly departed relatives. Calaveras, or sugar skulls, are the symbol of the holiday most recognizable outside of Mexican communities. And you can make your own! While professionals take months to fashion and decorate sugar skulls for Dia de Los Muertos decorations, a recipe from Hungry Happenings whips them up in a day or so, and they are completely edible, as long as you don't add non-food decorations.

Zombie Brains Jello Shots Oooh, here's a perfect treat for an adult Halloween party- jello shots in the shape of brains! This "cocktail" involves quite a bit of preparation, so get started early and don't drink until your shots are set. Yes, it takes some work, but when your guests see what you see in the picture above, it will all be worth it. The outside of the "brain" is a mixture of gelatin, vodka and flavored liqueurs, and sweetened condensed milk to give it an opaque look. Inside the brain is a sweet liquid concoction of raspberries, liqueur, and sugar. Once the jello shots are set, you bring them out with as much ceremony as you like, and cut into them to reveal the inner raspberry blood. Using a surgical instrument is preferred. If anyone gets the heebie-jeebies, just let them know how sweet these shots are. You'll find the recipe and complete instructions at WikiHow.And since you now have a brain mold, why not try some Cake Ball Brains for dessert? #jelloshot #food #brain #alcohol
Halloween Cheesy SkullsThis look like such a simple and delicious recipe, you might be tempted to eat it year-round! The basic ingredients are meat, cheese, and bread that gives you a Mexican-flavor pizza or baked ravioli. You'll find the full recipe here. The thing that makes it perfect for a Halloween party is the skull-shaped baking pan, which you can find at many outlets online if you can't get one at a store near you. The payoff is the terrifying vision of a diner pulling the skull apart to dip it into marinara sauce. You can get a similar effect by drizzling the sauce over the skull. Bon appetit! #food #skull
Eyeballs for Your Cocktails An easy way to turn regular food or drinks into Halloween fare is to add eyeballs. Now, we really don't want to collect any kind of real eyeballs, but creative folks have found ways around that. Instructables user makendo gives us a couple of different ways to make eyeballs, formulated to use in cocktails, although they are not restricted to drinks. Your mileage may vary. The disembodied eyes you see above are from the Zombie Martini Cocktail recipe. They are carved from small radishes with pimiento-stuffed olives for the iris and pupil. It is important to leave the root end to signify the optic nerve. These are best made fresh so that our guests can munch on the eyeballs after downing the Zombie Martini Cocktail. Another cocktail eyeball is sweeter, meant to garnish a kamikaze with cranberry juice, but they are probably delicious on their own. The ingredients are canned peeled lychees and cranberries. He posted the instructions for making both of these and the accompanying cocktails at Instructables. (Images credit makendo)#eyeball #food #cocktail #cocktailgarnish
Witch Finger Cookies with Red Velvet Hot ChocolateDomestic Gothess brings us two Halloween recipes that will spark up any party! These witch's fingers are shortbread cookies, but the appearance makes them downright ghoulish. The fingernails are blanched almonds, and the overall look is enhanced with some cinnamon for dirt and food coloring for blood. These would be good with hot chocolate, but for a Halloween effect, make that hot chocolate red! But this hot chocolate isn't just colored red. Domestic Gothess came up with a recipe that's not only blood red, but has the taste of red velvet cake.Red velvet is vanilla with a hint of chocolate and a tangy flavour from the buttermilk. I thought that adding buttermilk to the hot chocolate might cause it to curdle, so I used a little cream cheese instead to add that classic hint of tanginess; it tastes very much like red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting! The red velvet hot chocolate can be altered to be thick enough for dipping your cookies into or thinned to your own taste. Read how to make both of these Halloween treats at Domestic Gothess.#food #partytreat #witchfinger #cookie #hotchocolate #cocoa #witch #blood #redvelvet #cake
